University of Cambridge - Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £35,608 to £46,049
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 1st July 2026
Closes: 19th July 2026
Job Ref: LE50184

The Centre for Climate Repair (CCR) is a multidisciplinary research centre hosted within the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge. Led by a Director and three Deputy Directors, the Centre brings together researchers from across disciplines to develop innovative approaches to addressing climate change.

CCR supports research across three key areas: emissions reduction, greenhouse gas removal and refreezing the Arctic through climate interventions. Working with researchers, funders and collaborators across the University and beyond, the Centre develops ambitious interdisciplinary research programmes, secures funding, and oversees the successful delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects.

We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Senior Programme Coordinator to play a leading role in the delivery of the Centre's expanding research portfolio.

This is an exciting opportunity for a proactive professional to oversee the day-to-day coordination of several major research programmes, working closely with academic leaders, researchers and external stakeholders. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, on schedule and within budget, while maintaining excellent governance, financial oversight and stakeholder engagement.

As a senior member of the professional services team, you will line manage two Programme Coordinators, providing day-to-day leadership, allocating work, supporting their development and ensuring consistently high standards across programme administration. You will also contribute to improving systems and processes that support the Centre's growing portfolio of research activities.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating the successful delivery of multiple research programmes, ensuring effective planning, monitoring and reporting throughout the programmes' lifecycle.
  • Developing and maintaining project plans, documentation and management systems to support high-quality programme delivery.
  • Monitoring research project budgets, producing financial reports, authorising expenditure and ensuring compliance with University financial procedures.
  • Line managing two Programme Coordinators, allocating work, providing guidance, supporting professional development and promoting continuous improvement across the team.

The successful candidate will have experience of coordinating complex projects or programmes, monitoring budgets, organising events and communicating effectively with diverse stakeholders. Previous experience of line managing staff or leading the work of others is essential, together with excellent planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.

A scientific background is not required for this role, although an interest in supporting world-leading climate research would be beneficial.

This is a full-time role working 37 hours per week. However, we actively promote equality, diversity and family-friendliness and are sympathetic to flexible working and job shares. We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements. Please feel free to discuss flexibility prior to applying (using the contact information below) or at interview if your application is successful.
