Who we are
Rated a top three modern University in London, we provide an engaging portfolio of apprenticeships, short courses, undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. We also have an excellent research profile and were jointly recognised as the best modern university in the country for research, and the highest-ranked modern university in London in REF2021.
The Role
We are recruiting for a Financial Accountant to join our Financial Accounting team, a specialist team at the heart of the University’s Finance Service. This is an opportunity to play an important role in maintaining the financial integrity, control and insight that enables the University to deliver its ambitious Strategy 2030. Finance has a pivotal role in supporting sustainable investment, effective decision-making and long-term organisational resilience, supporting the University’s mission of transforming lives through education and research.
In this role, you will help ensure that the University and its subsidiaries have accurate, compliant and timely financial information. Working across financial statements, audit requests, journals, reconciliations, subsidiary reporting, credit card administration, VAT/CIS support, insurance and financial controls, you will contribute to the reliable financial foundations that allow colleagues across the University to plan, operate and deliver with confidence.
Key responsibilities will include supporting the preparation of annual financial statements for the University and its subsidiaries; coordinating responses to internal and external audit requests; preparing month-end journals, balance sheet reconciliations; supporting VAT, CIS and other regulatory reporting; and helping to maintain strong financial controls across areas such as bank mandates, credit card facilities, insurance and accounting policies
The successful candidate will bring a good working knowledge of financial accounting principles, including FRS102, alongside strong analytical and numerical skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. You will be confident working with financial data, preparing clear reports, liaising with colleagues and stakeholders, and explaining financial information clearly to non-specialist audiences. Experience within higher education, not-for-profit or another regulated environment, would be particularly valuable.
If you have any specific questions on the role, please contact Gavin Pereira, Head of Financial Accounts
