University of Oxford - Weston & Old Quad Shops

Location: Oxford
Salary: £27,534 to £28,437 per annum (pro-rata) (Grade 3)
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 7th July 2026
Closes: 21st July 2026
Job Ref: 187128

About the role

The Retail Operations department generates income for the Bodleian Libraries through its two on-site shops and online store, offering unique merchandise inspired by the Library's world-renowned collections. You will join a friendly and ambitious team during an exciting period of growth, helping to deliver an outstanding retail experience for visitors.

You will support the Shop Manager in the day-to-day operation of both the Weston Library and Old Quad shops, helping to maximise sales through excellent customer service, effective stock presentation and strong operational standards. You will deputise for the Shop Manager when required, supervise Retail Assistants during weekend shifts, coordinate stock replenishment and transfers, assist with ecommerce order fulfilment, support monthly stock counts, operate tills and EPOS systems, and ensure the shops remain welcoming, well-presented and fully stocked. You will also contribute to special events and work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain the smooth running of the retail operation.

This is a permanent part-time post, working 14 hours per week. The anticipated working pattern is weekends on a rota, with occasional evening and Bank Holiday working as required.

About you

You will have previous experience in a customer-facing retail environment and a genuine commitment to delivering excellent customer service. You will be confident handling cash, using electronic tills and stock management systems, and be comfortable using Microsoft Outlook and Excel. You will communicate effectively with customers and colleagues, work well both independently and as part of a team, and take personal responsibility for maintaining high standards. You will be organised, dependable and motivated, with excellent attention to detail. Previous experience of supervising colleagues, visual merchandising, and an interest in the Bodleian Libraries' retail product range would be advantageous.
