Faculty
This post sits within the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, bringing together the Speech and Language Therapy team in the School of Allied Health Sciences and colleagues in the Division of Education. It supports our FdA in Early Years Education with SEND and SLCN and associated Level 6 Top-Up, developed through collaboration between Education and SLT in response to growing workforce need in SEND, early communication and inclusive practice.
Role
You will be joining a collaborative team across Education and SLT to deliver our new FdA in Early Years Education with SEND and SLCN. SLCN is central to this programme, and your SLT knowledge and skills are the specific contribution this post brings — teaching the SLCN elements of the curriculum, supporting students in practice, and working alongside early years and education colleagues.
Candidates should be clear that the FdA and Level 6 Top-Up are the core of this post. You will contribute to teaching, assessment, student support and curriculum development. The programme includes two early-evening sessions per week, typically 4.00pm–8.00pm, delivered on campus and online.
You may also have opportunities to contribute to the BSc (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy programme, subject to experience and programme needs. This is secondary to the primary role.
Ideal Candidate
You will be a HCPC-registered Speech and Language Therapist with experience of supporting children and young people with SLCN, ideally within Early Years, education, community or SEND services.
You will have some experience of supporting, mentoring or supervising others — whether students, newly qualified practitioners, assistants or junior colleagues — and be able to bring that into your work with our students.
Additional specialist interests in Developmental Language Disorders, speech sound disorders, autism, multilingualism, learning disability or other SEND areas are welcomed. A Full and Relevant Early Years qualification or Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) would be welcomed but is not essential.

Development and Support
The postholder will be expected to work towards HEA Fellowship and a PgCert in Higher Education if not already held. DMU provides support for both. There may be opportunities to develop wider scholarly and research interests over time.
