Lecturer in Medical Education and Research Methods

Salary on appointment will be £48,822 per annum, with an annual increment up to £56,535 per annum. 

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Lecturer to join Norwich Medical School to undertake research within the framework of the School’s research strategy and contribute to the delivery, development, and leadership of research methods education within Norwich Medical School, with a particular focus on qualitative and applied health research methodologies. The role will involve teaching and assessment across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including delivery of qualitative research and research methods teaching for Master of Research (MRes) students and undergraduate medical students.

The postholder will supervise postgraduate student research projects, providing methodological guidance and academic support to MRes students undertaking qualitative, mixed-methods, and applied health research. They will contribute to curriculum development, student supervision, and the enhancement of research capacity within the School. 

In addition to teaching and supervision responsibilities, the postholder will maintain an active programme of research aligned to one or more strategic research areas within Norwich Medical School. This will include developing collaborative research activity, contributing to high-quality publications and grant applications, and supporting the School’s research and academic community. 

The role offers an opportunity to contribute to interdisciplinary research and medical education within a research-intensive and student-focused environment. 

You will have the opportunity to develop your research profile which compliments existing research strengths, producing high quality proposals to secure external research funding and disseminate results through academic publications and conferences. Teaching is a key part of this role and as such you will be expected to plan, teach and assess at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and supervise PhD students.
 
You must have a PhD (or equivalent) in a relevant subject area or equivalent experience, with proven experience of high-quality undergraduate teaching relevant to the subject. You will have a track record - appropriate to experience of high-quality publications in peer-reviewed journals, with evidence of successful applications for external research grant income. An ability to provide academic leadership and supervise PhD students would be advantageous. 
 
This full-time post is available from 1 September 2026 on a fixed term basis for 5 years.
