Post Doctoral Research Assistant

Lung cancer patients who take part in research have better care experiences and live longer. However, less than 10% of lung cancer patients take part in clinical trials and they do not always represent the wider patient population. The Oxford Institute of Applied Health Research is seeking to appoint a suitably qualified individual as a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant to work with a team at Oxford Brookes University on an exciting research project funded by the  National Institute for Health and Care Research’s ‘Research for Patient Benefit’ programme. With the team you will help to conduct and deliver this study which involves organising and delivering a series of online and face-to-face co-production workshops with people with lived experience of lung cancer from diverse communities that are often under-represented in clinical research. This may include people living in rural and coastal communities and those from deprived geographical areas. This study builds on previous research conducted by our research team and will allow us to further develop and adapt accessible, inclusive, and culturally competent, evidence-based resources to improve access and awareness of clinical opportunities for lung cancer patients.

 

This post is full-time (1.0 FTE) for a period of 12 months (December 2026-November 2025)

 

Applications are invited from individuals who have experience of qualitative and/or mixed methods psychology, health or social care research, excellent communication and time-management skills and must have completed, or be close to completing their PhD.

 

You will be contributing to the implementation and day-to-day running of the project. You will be working alongside other members of the project team and project collaborators. You will be involved primarily in coordinating the co-design workshops, recruiting participants, and collecting, analysing and evaluating data. You will also be involved in conducting a systematic review, alongside other members of the team. The project has a multi-disciplinary study advisory group, including academics from other universities working in this field of research, clinical colleagues, and patient representatives. You will have organisational responsibility for the project, but no direct line management responsibilities.

 

The ability to manage and prioritise your own workload and to work well as part of a team are essential.

 

●       A good degree in a relevant subject area and either close to completing or completed a PhD

●       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

●       Excellent organisational skills

●       Previous experience of working within a psychology, health or social care research setting
