Type of contract: 5 month contract
The appointed person will be expected to be proficient in gene expression analysis. This will include ability to work with large genomic / transcriptomic datasets. The person is also required to assist with fish trials to generate material during project for gene expression analysis. The project will work closely with Stirling University and with industrial aquaculture partners, and so there is an expectation that the applicant will liaise closely with all partners in the project.
The project: Immune development and health in salmon aquaculture
This is a multi-partner project led by Stirling and Bangor Universities, funded by the BBSRC Sustainable Aquaculture Partnerships for Innovation programme.
This project will combine experimental and functional genomic approaches with industry-relevant pathology and welfare measures to address how early-life photoperiods impact immune resilience in key salmon developmental stages.
This will deliver a fundamental understanding of the importance of diet and light environments on fish immunity, provide evidence for improved salmon rearing practices to promote circadian health
The PDRA will join the Scottish Fish Immunology Research Centre within the school of Biological Sciences at University of Aberdeen.
Candidates should hold a PhD in functional genomics, with knowledge of the fish immune system nutrition / or chronobiology. The candidate should have expertise in molecular biology in laboratory and computational analysis of gene expression and/or transcriptomics. Good writing and communication skills are desirable.
This is a 5-month contract post. Salary will be at the appropriate point on Grade 6, £38,784 - £46,049 per annum pro rata with placement according to qualifications and experience.
