Lecturer in Games Theory and Cultures

FTE: 0.4 FTE (working 14.8 hours per week)

Salary: UH7 £38,784 pro rata pa to £46,049 pro rata pa by annual increments on achieving designated skills and experience

Annual Leave: 35 days pro rata plus standard public holidays and an additional 4 days including the closure of our office between Christmas and New Year 

Location: College Lane Campus, Hatfield

We are seeking a highly motivated lecturer with a track record of research to teach the critical theories and cultures of video games. This is a UK-based role, but may occasionally require work off-site which could include some international travel and working some evenings and weekends. 

Main duties and responsibilities

You will be a specialist in the critical theory and cultures of video games and will provide high quality teaching and research on the UG Digital Animation and other programmes as required.

You will continue to develop a programme of independent, academic research in an area associated with Games producing high quality research outputs. You will also contribute to the activities of one or more research groups based in the School of Creative Arts.

You will inspire and intellectually challenge our students, developing and delivering a high-quality teaching and learning experience. You will work closely with colleagues and the Programme Leader, in a collegial and proactive academic team.

Skill and experience required

You will have some experience of teaching at HE level together with a track record of research and publication. You will have an awareness of current academic and popular debates relating to computer game practices and cultures and experience of engaging students with these. Experience of teaching or supervising postgraduate students and/or of delivery in international contexts would be advantages.

You must have good presentation and interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills. You will have the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative and be proficient in English.

Qualifications required

You must hold an undergraduate degree, or equivalent Level 6 qualification and a masters degree or equivalent in a related field. Ideally you will be working towards or have completed a PhD in a relevant field. Having a teaching qualification or membership of Advance HE would be an advantage.
