Faculty / Directorate

De Montfort University (DMU) is an ambitious, globally minded and culturally rich university with a strong commitment to the public good. We strive to maintain a stimulating and inclusive environment that champions difference, celebrates success and transforms lives through education, research and partnership.

By joining the Community Justice team within the School of Applied Social Sciences, you will help prepare the next generation of professionals entering the criminal justice system with the knowledge, skills and values to make a meaningful difference to individuals, communities and society.

Following the successful re-award of our contract with His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS), which we have delivered for over 30 years, we are seeking enthusiastic academics and practitioners to join our established Community Justice team.

Role

We are seeking to appoint highly motivated and committed Lecturers or Senior Lecturers in Community Justice to join our team. We have three full-time, two-year fixed-term posts and one 0.5 FTE permanent post available. Please indicate within your application which post(s) you wish to be considered for.

You will contribute to the delivery, development and enhancement of our Community Justice and Probation programmes, teaching predominantly through innovative online and blended learning approaches. You will design and deliver engaging learning experiences, support students through personal tutoring, contribute to assessment and feedback, and work collaboratively with colleagues and external partners to ensure an outstanding student experience. You will also contribute to curriculum development, scholarship and wider academic activity within the School.

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the UK's leading Community Justice education teams, delivering nationally recognised programmes in partnership with His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service and helping to shape the future probation workforce.

Ideal Candidate

You will hold an honours degree and a postgraduate qualification in Community Justice, Criminology or a related discipline, or an appropriate professional probation qualification. You will have experience of learning and development within higher education or professional practice in probation, community justice or a related criminal justice setting.

You will be an excellent communicator with strong organisational skills and the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues, students and His Majesty's Prison and Probation Service. Experience of online or blended learning would be advantageous.

Appointments will be made at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, depending on qualifications, experience, and evidence of academic leadership.

Above all, you will share DMU's commitment to providing an outstanding, inclusive and supportive learning experience for all students and be passionate about developing the next generation of probation professionals.
