About the Role
The postholder will develop three-dimensional metamaterials and architected electromagnetic materials, focusing on advanced fabrication, characterisation, and scalable manufacturing strategies.
About You
You will hold a PhD in Materials Science, Nanotechnology, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline. You will have experience in 3D metamaterials or architected materials, with hands-on expertise in nano- and micro-fabrication techniques such as e-beam lithography, FIB, nanoimprint lithography, or micro/nanoscale 3D printing. You will demonstrate strong knowledge of materials characterisation methods, including SEM, AFM, and optical or electromagnetic techniques, and understand the electromagnetic behaviour of structured materials.
You will have a strong publication record in metamaterials, nanofabrication, or functional materials, and the ability to design, optimise, and troubleshoot fabrication workflows from concept to device demonstration. Experience working in cleanroom environments will be expected.
You will possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams. Experience with low-loss dielectric or ferroelectric materials, scalable manufacturing approaches, multi-physics modelling, or mentoring junior researchers will be advantageous.
