About the role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Senior Research Fellow to join our dynamic team within the Molecular & Cellular Immunology Unit at UCL GOS ICH. The MRC Centre of Research Excellenc e in Therapeutic Genomics (MRC CoRE TG) is a £50 million, 14-year international initiative to mass-produce and deliver affordable genetic therapies for currently untreatable rare conditions. The research fellow will be part of a large, international, collaborative effort focused on therapy for rare genetic disorders and the group aims are to revolutionise how therapies are identified, developed, and brought to the clinic for rare genetic disorders of the blood, eyes, and brain The post will primarily be involved to assist in the development of scalable gene editing platform to engineer therapeutic T cells for clinical trials in inherited disorders. This post will form part of a large, international, collaborative effort focused on therapy for rare genetic disorders. The Senior Research Fellow will be expected to carry out GMP optimisation manufacturing which will include cell culture, set-up, running, analysis of quality control, process validations and completion of all accompanyin g documentation including writing SOPS. This post will focus on genome-targeted therapies, primarily CRISPR-based genome editing techniques, that use genetic code to target specific genes. Genome-targeting brings specificity, by treating the genetic cause the disorder, but also flexibility, since a successful therapy could be ‘reprogrammed’ to another disorder in the same tissue by changing just the genetic code used for targeting. This is a research project focused on rare diseases.
