This is an exciting opportunity to join the Barrios lab to investigate how memories become behaviour at the molecular and cellular level.

About the role

The main purpose of this position is to work as part of a team to advance your own lab project and in addition contribute to general lab duties such as maintaining stocks and ordering reagents.

The Barrios lab investigates the molecular and cellular basis of behaviour in C. elegans. One fundamental aspect of behaviour is that is flexible and modulated by experience. Each meaningful event that an animal experiences is stored in the brain as a memory but not all memories are retrievable in a manner that affects behaviour. Many memories are stored in a latent state and become behaviour only in particular circumstances. What determines whether a memory is expressed or remains latent is not well understood and the focus of this project. The project will include designing and running experiments, recording, analysing and writing up results.

Interview Date(s) are scheduled for: August /September.

This role is an open-ended contract with a funding end date of 30th September 2027 in the first instance but with possibility of extension.

This appointment is subject to UCL Terms and Conditions of Service for Research and Professional Services Staff. Please visit https://www.ucl.ac.uk/human-resources/conditions-service-research-teaching-and-professional-services-staff for more information.
