Salary from £43,277 to £51,714 pa inclusive with potential to progress to £55,497 pa inclusive of London allowance

This is initially a full-time fixed term appointment for three years, with further extension subject to funding.

The Sociology Department at The London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) is ranked sixth in the world in the 2026 QS World Rankings by Subject. This is an exciting time to join the LSE Sociology Department as we embark on developing and delivering a new communications and events strategy.

The Communications, Events and Marketing Manager post will develop strong and collaborative working relationships within the Department, including with the LSE Human Rights and British Journal of Sociology academic leads, to devise and deliver the Department’s communications, marketing and events strategy and milestones.

You will lead on the creation, management and delivery of the Department’s communications, events and marketing plan (which includes LSE Human Rights and the British Journal of Sociology) to ensure activities engage LSE applicants, students, staff, alumni, external partners and the wider public. You will plan, manage and deliver the Department’s active and wide-ranging events programme. You will implement an effective multi-channel communications strategy in order to raise the profile and impact of research activities to diverse audiences and stakeholders. You will produce audio visual content and dynamic digital content using specialist software. You will lead on overseeing and improving the Departmental website and social media channels. You will also line manage and oversee the work of the Department’s Communications and Events Officer.

The successful postholder will have been educated to degree standard or higher or have equivalent work experience. You will have experience of managing and marketing a programme of events and communications strategies, preferably within the Higher Education sector. You will have experience of video and podcast production. You will have experience of sourcing and developing engaging, audience-appropriate content for a wide range of internal and external audiences. Excellent knowledge of a range of digital platforms and an understanding of their appropriate use as part of a wider communications and events strategy is essential. You should have the ability to develop productive working relations and work towards the wider team’s goals.

An understanding of Higher Education institutions, as well as academic research and publishing, as well as experience of planning and delivering targeted marketing campaigns, is desirable.
