The University of Buckingham has a unique atmosphere, unlike that of any other higher educational institution. Despite being one of the UK’s smallest university and the only independent university to hold a Royal Charter, Buckingham has staff from over 25 countries, making it a truly distinctive work environment.
The university is keen to build on its strengths to further enhance the teaching and research culture and is looking for a candidate who shares similar knowledge and research exchange ambitions and is keen to make a notable contribution. By joining our passionate and active team, the candidate can expect excellent support in their teaching, research, knowledge exchange and scholarly activity.
This post is an ideal opportunity for someone who is GMC registered and who wishes to continue their leadership development of educational insight and capability.
The post holder will supervise the clinical educator pool at an operational level, ensuring rotas are completed and daily as well as longitudinal tasks are undertaken across the pool of clinical educators. The post holder will also interview and recruit new clinical educators to the team as required through liaison with local education providers, the curriculum team and the Phase 1 lead.
Secondary to this role is a varied number of additional tasks which the clinical educators may be required to participate in depending on when opportunities arise. These include: Exam question and OSCE writing, review and marking and assessing, participating in open days to showcase our clinical skills facilities and talk to prospective students, Personal tutor mentorship for students and involvement in Quality Improvement projects in the faculty.
When required on the rota, the post holders will act as a clinical educator to work with the unit leads in planning and delivering all aspects of undergraduate medical education in Phase 1 of the curriculum in a variety of different methods. However, the post-holder will be supernumerary if the rota is full and released to complete their leadership activities.
The successful applicant will be expected to have degrees in a relevant subject area and relevant teaching and research experience. The candidate should have a portfolio that enables them to demonstrate their skills and knowledge. Candidates with background/experience in teaching and assessing Medical Students or Health Professionals are particularly encouraged to apply. Professional qualifications such as a recognised Higher Education teaching qualification or Higher Education Academy Fellowship would be advantageous.
