This post will oversee all aspects of the management of strategic priorities and operational plans for the Security, Crime and Intelligence University Innovation Institute (SCIII), reporting to the UII Lead Co-Director, as well as a dotted line to the Head of Business Engagement and Partnerships.

As a member of the UII, you will work in a seamless, integrated manner, in partnership with teams across RIS, the University and externally in order to effectively manage one of the University’s Innovation Institutes, which are subject to the University’s performance monitoring for UIIs and other research infrastructures.

You will provide critical, underpinning operational support to the UII, ensuring that Cardiff’s academic community is fully engaged with UII activities and provide effective management and reporting of budget allocations, including appropriate management of appointments, and matrix-managing resources as appropriate.

You will be responsible for advising the UII Lead Co-Director on research and innovation strategies, allocation of UII budgets and resources, and assisting with shaping the future development of the UII.  This will involve working within multi-disciplinary teams and senior leaders across the University as well as representatives from businesses, public sector and regional partners in order to develop and implement opportunities.

You should be confident and experienced in working effectively with businesses, the public and third sectors and/or regional organisations and will ensure the UII’s research and innovation agenda is focused on developing excellence, in areas of strength with the strong potential for income generation into, and economic benefit for Wales (e.g. training, job creation and new commercial outcomes).

You will drive effective collaboration between UIIs and other strategic entities, aligned to opportunities which intersect and co-ordinate working with professional staff across the University, aligned to the delivery of identified deliverables.
You will focus on equality, diversity and inclusion, as well as provision of co-ordinated support for early career researchers.

This role requires a proactive and ambitious individual with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to forge and maintain mutually beneficial relationships. You will be a strategic thinker who is quick to recognise emerging opportunities and able to manage multiple priorities. This is a full-time post and is eligible to be offered on a blended working basis, meaning that as well as spending time working on campus you can also choose to spend some time working from another location, e.g. your home. The University is committed to offering this flexibility, wherever the role and business need allows, supporting work-life balance.

This post is full time (35 hours per week) and is fixed-term to 31 July 2026.  Applications for internal secondments are welcomed.
