As a key component of the research funding system, Research England oversees UK Research and Innovation’s England-only functions in relation to university research and knowledge exchange. This includes providing grant funding to English universities for research and knowledge exchange activities; developing and implementing the Research Excellence Framework in partnership with the UK Higher Education funding bodies; overseeing the sustainability of the Higher Education research base in England; overseeing the £900 million UK Research Partnership Investment Fund and the Higher Education Innovation Fund (HEIF).
About the role
As The Head of Communications, you will develop and implement Research England’s approach to high-quality and trusted communications with the public, HE sector and government. This is a varied role encompassing communications strategy, planning, media relations, crisis communications and external and internal messaging.
You will be a graduate or hold equivalent qualifications and can show continued professional development. It is desirable that you hold a Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) or a similar accreditation or membership.
You will have a successful track record as a communications professional, with a proven ability to operate strategically and to shape and embed successful organisational approaches to communications.
You will have considerable experience of dealing with the media including handling queries, writing news releases, organising briefings and gaining positive media coverage.
You will have knowledge and experience of how to ‘modernise’ communications functions and activities, driving innovation in ways of working leading to organisational effectiveness.
You will have the ability to communicate in a succinct, engaging and convincing way, producing communications that are straightforward and clearly articulated for external and internal audiences.
You will have the ability to adapt, reach out and build trust and collaborative working and proven strength in stakeholder management, building effective relationships with people of all levels both internally and externally.
You will have strong organisational skills and the ability to deploy resources effectively.
