Tumour Cell Death Laboratory (Prof. Kevin Ryan)

The Cancer Research UK Beatson Institute in Glasgow supports cutting edge research into the molecular mechanisms of cancer development and is one of the leading research institutes in Europe. The Institute provides an outstanding research environment, underpinned by state-of-the-art core services and advanced technologies, with special emphasis on imaging, metabolomics, and in vivo models.

Our innovative and ambitious research themes focus on understanding the regulation of the tumour microenvironment and cancer metabolism, in particular:

  • Intrinsic cancer cell vulnerabilities
  • Interplay between the tumour microenvironment, metastasis and recurrence
  • Biology of early disease, aimed at developing a ‘Precision Prevention’ approach

We are looking to appoint a dedicated researcher as a Senior Scientific Officer (SSO) in the group headed by Professor Kevin Ryan, which has interests in the regulation of cell viability during tumour development and in cancer therapy. You will establish and supervise research projects on cell viability both in vitro and in vivo.  You will participate in collaborative research projects, contributing to their development experimentally and intellectually. In addition, you will be given the opportunity to lead a research project. The post includes hands-on research, staff training and lab-management tasks.

You will have a relevant degree or PhD, with a record of significant research experience in cell and molecular biology techniques including protein biochemistry and gene expression/transfer.  Excellent organisational and communication skills together with previous knowledge of cell death and/or autophagy research would be an advantage and experience of training/mentorship or lab management is desirable, but not essential.

For informal enquiries please email Prof. Kevin Ryan at k.ryan@beatson.gla.ac.uk
