This post represents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to join a team of staff in Keele University’s Faculty of Natural Sciences.  The Faculty is responsible for the School of Chemical and Physical Sciences.

A postdoctoral research associate position is available within the group of Dr. Gavin J. Miller, to carry out research on a project funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The project is a collaboration with Prof. Eoin M. Scanlan’s group at Trinity College, Dublin (funded in the RoI by Science Foundation Ireland).

This innovative EPSRC-SFI project is in the area of carbohydrate chemical biology and the research will involve the design and chemical synthesis of a series of oligosaccharide targets, alongside the establishment of new, mild ligation technologies for their conjugation to fluorophores.

Applicants must have a PhD (or have submitted a thesis prior to taking up the appointment) in synthetic organic/carbohydrate chemistry. Experience with multi-step chemical synthesis routes is highly desirable.

Applicants will have excellent communication skills, ability to work independently, and have an organised approach to the management of their research.

The post is available for 36 months and the successful candidate will also be expected to participate collaboratively with the academic partner in the RoI, including research visits, joint-meetings. The role will also involve supervision of PhD students.
