With responsibility for transforming student data into insight and placing it at the heart of strategic decision-making across the University, this is an exciting role at both an exciting and challenging time for the Higher Education sector.
The Planning Team at Canterbury Christ Church University, overseen by the Head of Student Number Planning and Data Analytics is responsible for co-ordinating the annual student number target setting processes including forecasting and modelling in liaison with Faculties and other Professional Services.
The team is responsible for submitting statutory returns to external agencies and bodies and managing the enhancement of data quality improvement activity at the University. The team also develops, maintains and visualises the University’s student business intelligence including Key Performance Indicators and dashboards. With exciting programmes of work transforming the way student data is used over the next 12 months and beyond, this is an opportunity to shape and inform the way we generate and apply insights for the benefit of the institution’s long term future.
The Head of Student Number Planning and Data Analytics will lead on the collection and analysis of University student data, providing a focal point for management information, institutional performance, data governance and statutory returns to ensure that decision-making is based on robust, reliable and timely evidence.
Enhancing data quality will be at the heart of the role. The Head of Student Number Planning and Data Analytics will lead on the submission of statutory returns to the University’s funding and other regulatory bodies including the provision of assurance about their quality. As a subject matter expert, the post holder will advise the statutory returns and core data workstreams within our Modernising Our Student Information Programme, to ensure implementation of our new student record system and changes to business process are informed by best practice.
With a remit that includes the transformation of business intelligence at the University, the successful appointee will advise and drive our Student Business Intelligence Project, which is introducing a new BI platform and ways of generating insights that inform decision-making.
An experienced Strategic Planner, effective at building and maintaining strong working relationships and networks across the higher education sector and beyond, the successful candidate will hold a key management role in the provision of student number analysis, management information and accurate and timely statutory returns to external and regulatory bodies.
Technically confident, the successful candidate will oversee the Planning team, and will connect and lead technical specialists within the University and contribute to and lead networks across the sector. The post holder will be responsible for providing leadership and guidance to ensure a consistent and structured approach to external returns and business intelligence. They will be required their team on procedures and act as a role model for their professionalism to the University community.
Proactive, creative and innovative, the post holder will be able to present complex information in an impactful way. The successful applicant will be highly effective in researching, analysing and communicating information that is detailed, technical and specialist. The successful candidate will need to present this information in a variety of formats in an accessible way which highlights the main issues and implications to inform the decision making of senior managers, project teams and policy groups.
