The School of Mechanical Engineering Sciences is a major contributor to the research & teaching activities of the Faculty of Engineering & Physics Sciences. We are home to 4 Research Centres, in Biomedical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Aerodynamics & Environmental Flow, & Engineering Materials, as well as having a significant role in the Surrey Space Centre. Our research activity is reflected strongly in our undergraduate & postgraduate teaching & training. The School is looking to strengthen its activity & leadership in the strategic areas of its portfolio through the recruitment to this post.
To build on our research & teaching excellence we are looking for a candidate who can support our endeavours in Biomedical Engineering.
We are particularly interested in talking to candidates with strengths & experience in Biomechanics, biomimetic engineering, applied electronics, resilient & adaptive structures, & structural & materials modelling as applied to Biomedical Engineering. As a member of the School, ideally you should be able to teach modules across our core Mechanical Engineering Sciences programmes as well as supporting the broader research activity & postgraduate student supervision.
The School of Mechanical Engineering Sciences is home to around 40 academic members of staff, 750 undergraduate students & 70 doctoral students, as well as 40 research, technical & administrative staff. Each of our research centres are supported by cutting edge experimental facilities including advanced microscopy & surface analysis, wind tunnels, mechanical & vibration testing, design centre, & mechanical workshops. We are also home to a Rolls-Royce University Technology Centre & a NERC-National Centre for Atmospheric Sciences. The University has recently launched Institutes in Artificial Intelligence & Sustainability, both of which have strong resonance with activities undertaken in the School of Mechanical Engineering Sciences.
