We are looking for a Student Support Manager, a key position in the Student Support team in the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies. The post holder will be responsible for reviewing, administering and delivering the services and systems that support our Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate Taught (PGT) student community.

The Opportunity:

The post holder will ensure that strong student support is provided in line with the University and R(D)SVS aim of enhancing the student experience. The postholder will work to both implement and coordinate the service and subsequently develop the administrative and support mechanisms within the School relating to student support. The post holder will be a leading member of the Student Support Management Group (SSMG) and Student Support Advisory Group (SSAG) to coordinate support for students of concern within the School and manage the allocation of cases among SSAG.

The post will be directly line managed by the Veterinary Teaching Organisation Manager and also work closely with the Director of Student Wellbeing to ensure good systems are in place for pastoral care, and the integration of student support with student welfare and experience. The post holder will also work very closely with the UG and PG managers, and the Senior Personal Tutor and Personal Tutors (PTs) for UG and PGT regarding day-to-day issues and communication.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Good standard of education and previous experience in a relevant administrative/junior management role with an understanding of the higher education context, OR hold a relevant degree and have relevant experience in a student support role.
  • Excellent, proven interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience of working/responding independently and dealing with unforeseen problems and circumstances.
  • Work as part of a team, to enable and motivate staff, to facilitate, influence and negotiate.
  • Knowledge and understanding of university academic policies, regulations and codes of practice, plus appreciation of wider University and HE issues.
