Job summary:

Target Malaria is seeking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic Stakeholder Engagement (SE) Officer to support the engagement activities of our current African partner teams in Mali, Uganda, Ghana and Burkina Faso. This role is essential to the Project and requires someone able to provide both strategic guidance as well as a more hands-on approach to planning - ensuring that key milestones are monitored and achieved. The bilingual (English/French) SE Officer will ensure that all stakeholder engagement activities are aligned with the project’s values and be guided by our four key principles – excellence, co-development, evidence-driven work and open and accountable relationships and decisions.

In addition, the SE Officer will be responsible for the coordination of engagement activities with other project functional teams including communications, regulatory affairs, project management, insectary activities, field entomology.

Reporting to the Stakeholder Engagement Manager, this position will develop collaborative relationships working directly with the Communications Officer, the SE Development Support Officer, the SE Leads based in Africa and other project managers to ensure successful delivery of the associated milestones. The successful candidate will, on occasion, represent the SE Manager in internal management discussions bringing their expertise and perspectives to inform decision making.

We are only looking to attract candidates with a deep commitment to the mission of developing and sharing new, cost-effective and sustainable genetic technologies to modify mosquitoes and reduce malaria transmission. Prior understanding of the science is not necessary but an aptitude to work effectively with academic colleagues, demonstrable cultural awareness and an ability to operate efficiently in a fast moving and complex environment, are essential.

Duties and responsibilities:

The bilingual (English/French) Stakeholder Engagement Officer will be required to work with significant autonomy and will need well developed organisational skills to support the achievement of project milestones, often working independently. The SE Officer will provide support and guidance to the Africa-based partner teams in the delivery of their key engagement activities and milestones and will be responsible for coordinating and consolidating inputs to ensure that all strategic decisions are fit for purpose and aligned with best practice. The SE Officer will need to build strong relationships with each of the project teams and quickly become fluent in the project’s scientific and technical aspects in order to represent its work. A proactive approach to identifying and addressing possible hurdles, challenges and delays will be expected. The role will require extensive travel to the current African team sites, pending Covid-19 health and safety advice.
