The Development Team within DARO is ultimately responsible for: soliciting major and principal donations from alumni, philanthropists, corporations, trusts and foundations, and other charitable bodies; stewarding major and principal donors through reports, presentations, events and face-to-face meetings; meeting with gift beneficiaries to collate and produce gift impact reporting materials; hosting and devising engagement opportunities for existing and prospective benefactors on campus; and managing relationships with key stakeholders on behalf of the University.

The Trust and Foundation Officer will play a key role in contributing to the delivery of the Durham Inspired campaign.

We are seeking a proactive individual who enjoys working both independently and as part of a team, who will support the further development of this key area of fundraising.

You will have responsibility for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donations from charitable trusts and foundations, individually and in collaboration with the Senior Development Manager (Trusts and Foundations) and wider Development Team.

You will have responsibility for researching and identifying new funding opportunities, building and managing relationships with donors, writing funding applications, ensuring grants are processed effectively and that all reporting requirements are met, in collaboration with Fundraising, Stewardship and Donor Relations colleagues.

You will provide fundraising advice to support the development of University project plans, and will work closely with colleagues across the University to generate funding to support a wide range of projects. Key areas currently supported by trust and foundation fundraising include capital projects, scholarships, research projects, museums/heritage, wider student experience and outreach.

Candidates will have excellent writing skills with close attention to detail. They will have the ability to understand many, varied, complex project plans/business cases quickly, and to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. They will have the ability to present complex information on a wide range of subjects concisely and persuasively, appealing to varied donors and audiences. They will have excellent relationship-building and management skills, and will take a strategic approach to their work.

Candidates must be versatile and able to work closely with senior University leaders, prominent and public figures, major benefactors and advocates, and senior volunteers in multiple capacities facilitating the advancement of Durham University.

Although working globally and across all Campaign priorities, there will be opportunities to take responsibility for specific areas of trust and foundation fundraising. The post-holder will be supported in all aspects of their work, and training will be provided where required.
