The Institute for Materials Discovery (IMD) has been established since 2014 and is part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MAPS). IMD offers a uniquely stimulating, diverse and open environment pursing high-quality research and teaching. Our mission is to link fundamental knowledge of materials science across UCL, creating new research opportunities, for tackling global challenges including, but not limited to transport, energy, environment, and health-care. About the Role
The Institute for Materials Discovery wishes to appoint a Laboratory and Safety Manager who will take responsibility for all IMD laboratories at Bloomsbury campus and cooperate with peers in IMD Laboratories at UCL East Campus. The appointment is an open-ended appointment, and the post holder will also be expected to hold office hours. The role holder will uphold a high health and safety standard including the maintenance of equipment and responsibility for operational processes. The role holder will work closely with other departmental Safety Officers to support interdepartmental projects.
Applicants should have a degree in materials science, chemistry, physics or engineering. Experience of working in a wet chemistry or materials laboratory and of managing Health and Safety in a laboratory environment is essential. Proficient knowledge of Health and Safety at work with the ability to conduct risk assessments and accident investigations, along with excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills, you will have the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders. Experience and knowledge of managing workshop machinery and lasers would be desirable.
