HORIZON-MSCA-2021-DN.01 EUTERPE: European Literatures and Gender from a Transnational Perspective project is looking for Doctoral Candidates (DCs) to participate in the project. Currently one position is open with the Coventry University for a Doctoral candidate who will be appointed as a Research Fellow at Grade 6 to conduct research and write a thesis on “The role of transnational literatures in the decolonisation of understandings of gender within the European academe”(WP6).

We are seeking candidates who can demonstrate expertise both in literary and gender studies, with an interest in decolonizing approaches to the teaching of Women’s and Gender Studies within European Higher Education. Candidates should have some experience of feminist methodological approaches and qualitative social sciences research methods.

Research Brief: Drawing on interdisciplinary feminist methods and methodologies, including pedagogical and textual content analyses, curricula case studies, participant observation and semi-structured interviews with educators, students and transnational intellectuals in cross-European contexts, the recruited Research Assistant/Doctoral Candidate based at Coventry University will investigate the ways in which transnational literatures (including text, novels, poetry, play texts, digital literary media) have influenced processes of pedagogical decolonisation within the teaching of Women’s and Gender Studies. The research asks to what extent transnational intellectuals and literatures that challenge thinking about European gender identities have been deployed to develop, extend and decolonise theoretical frameworks for rethinking politics of identity within interdisciplinary gender studies.

As a part of their research training, all EUTERPE Doctoral Candidates will have the following duties:

  • Enroll as a Postgraduate Researcher (PhD Student/Doctoral Candidate) at Coventry University and work towards the completion of their PhD thesis within the deadlines set.
  • Spend a period of 6 months at the Utrecht University during the second year of their tenure.
  • Undertake two months of guided internship with a EUTERPE Associate Partner.
  • Development an Employability Enhancement Plan with a mentor.
  • Attend the project-wide training events and schools across Europe.
  • Participate in the creation of the Dictionary of Transnational Women’s Literature in Europe.
  • Participate in the EUTERPE Transnational Literary Research Laboratory creating the content of the Dictionary/Catalogue/Podcast Library.
  • Participate in the EUTERPE final dissemination events in Vienna and contribute to the final project report in 2026.

This is the chance for you to join one of Coventry University’s Research Centres, working alongside colleagues passionate about transforming global higher education through impactful research. Further details about the Centre and its research themes can be found here: www.coventry.ac.uk/globallearning

Please submit your application form including reference details before midnight January 4th, 2023

A covering letter and CV can also be attached to the application form.

Short-listed candidates will be invited to participate in either on-line or in-person job interviews, and will be subject to pre-employment checks prior to appointment. Informal inquiries may be addressed to Suzanne.Clisby@coventry.ac.uk
