Professor Robert MacLaren invites applicants to apply for the position of Research Scientist in Retinal Gene Therapy in his research group, involving the application of RNA interference or CRISPR-mediated gene editing to treat inherited retinal diseases. Over the last decade, Professor MacLaren has been at the forefront of translational medical research into novel clinical treatments for incurable retinal diseases, and is regarded internationally as a leader in the fields of retinal gene therapy, electronic retinas and ocular robotic surgery.
 
Your duties will include managing assigned academic, research and administrative activities; maintaining clear and complete records of all experimental methods and results and adapting scientific protocols and developing new experimental techniques.
 
We are looking for a highly motivated researcher with outstanding academic credentials who is interested in developing a career in biomedical research, who can work well under pressure, and who can manage multiple tasks in a milestone-orientated research environment. The successful candidate should hold a PhD or equivalent in the biosciences or related field of research. Prior experience in RNA interference or CRISPR-mediated gene editing is highly desirable, and previous work with adeno-associated viral (AAV) vectors and murine models of genetic diseases would be advantageous. 
 
This post is fixed term until 30th June 2024 in the first instance.

Salary (£): Grade 7: £34,308 – £42,155. A less experienced candidate may be appointed at Grade 6 (£30,502 to £36,386) per annum, with a commensurate adjustment in either the essential criteria, responsibilities or duties.
