The Post

Reporting to the Head of HR Partnering, this role provides a fantastic opportunity for an experienced practitioner to help us to continually evolve our culture and approach to casework. People and solutions focused, you will deliver high quality and professional advice, guidance and support to enable senior leaders to be confident in managing employee issues, in a fair and consistent manner, and in line with our HR policies and practices.

A key role will be managing and developing our approach to casework across the University. You will work closely with the HR partnering team to build skills and expertise within our managers, and to embed a consistent and timely approach to casework.

This role will build management capability across the University, identifying, developing and delivering appropriate interventions and working proactively to coach and support managers. To support this the role holder will drive some of our key policy work, reviewing and developing policies and creating manager and employee toolkits.

We are looking for someone with strong technical HR skills, but more importantly with fantastic communication and relationship building skills.

Description of Duties

  • Provide proactive, professional HR advice and practical expertise on the full range of people issues to a dedicated client area, building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders and establishing yourself as a trusted partner in all people and business issues
  • Provide advice and coaching across the University, in all aspects of employee relations, contractual and policy matters ensuring compliance with legislation, good practice and the University's own policies and procedures
  • Provide proactive support and advice to managers to manage all sickness absence issues effectively, analysing data and implementing appropriate interventions to minimise sickness absence levels and maximise employee wellbeing
  • Research, develop and implement new and revised HR policies, procedures and associated documentation across the University
  • Provide effective recording, monitoring, analysis and interpretation of relevant management information with the development of more effective and efficient recording of this data

Essential Criteria

  • Degree or equivalent qualification or significant practical experience that demonstrates equivalent level of knowledge and skill
  • Demonstrable experience of advising people managers in relation to employee casework (restructure, grievance, discipline, absence, redundancy etc)
  • Evidence of managing complex casework and assessing related risks
  • Experience of advising and coaching managers to resolve people related issues
  • Experience of evaluating and continually improving HR processes
