We are seeking to recruit a Data Scientist to join our Data Science group. Collaborating with our industry partners, we develop tools, frameworks, and applications to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies across UK industry and the public sector.
You will work across the Hartree Centre’s project portfolio focusing on data analysis and machine learning. You will regularly interact with other technical teams including High Performance Computing, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering alongside Professional Services staff to deliver solutions to industry challenges and create societal and economic impact. With Business Development colleagues, you will develop collaborations with industry and academic partners. Projects span a range of industry sectors including healthcare, manufacturing, energy and agritech, and there is some scope for choosing projects in areas of special interest. From small start -up companies to large multinational corporations, you will work closely with commercial teams with some work being commercial in confidence. Projects span the technology readiness spectrum from early-stage research through to commercial application of established techniques and are implemented on systems! includin g our high-performance computers and cloud. Our previous projects have included predicting healthcare pathways for NHS Liverpool, analysing energy use in South-West Water’s treatment plants and building a demonstrator for a digital twin to help tackle the effects of climate change.

Person Specification
You will have experience in analysing data and applying machine learning using tools such as R or Python. While support from other members of the department is available, the candidate should have a basic knowledge of coding, software engineering and statistics. Demonstration of knowledge and/or experience in statistical analysis or artificial intelligence will be a distinct advantage.
You will need to work on diverse projects, so should have good communication skills, in particular the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues from a variety of backgrounds, collaborators, and clients. Hartree Centre projects are solution-focused, so the candidate must be able to work to a plan and within a deadline.
