An opportunity has arisen within the Academic Section for a full-time; fixed-term Assessment Officer until 31 October 2024. The role is focused on supporting the accurate and timely processing and publication of our postgraduate students’ results. The Assessment Team plays a leading institutional role in this important aspect of students’ academic lives. We are looking for an experienced administrator with strong organisational skills; and the ability to deliver a specialist higher education service. You will be responsible for administrative matters related to the assessment of all students.
The Academic Section is part of the University’s Professional Services and is headed by the Academic Registrar. The section is responsible for managing all aspects of student and academic administration and plays a central role in delivering the University’s commitment to excellence in education across the institution.
Duties of the Role
The role of Assessment Officer is varied and wide-ranging; you will work closely with other role holders within the Academic Section and as such will contribute to ensuring a high level of service to students and staff. The post plays a key part in supporting the University's Education Mission.
You will act as first point of contact for staff and students regarding assessment, exam boards and Extenuating Circumstances Policy enquiries and advising on the Rules of Assessment and Assessment Policies. You will also be responsible for ensuring the accuracy of assessment related communications and publications, e.g. web pages.
Duties will also include contributing to improvement projects, reviewing procedures, and supporting the maintenance, updating and publication of the Rules of Assessment.
This post is fixed-term until 31 October 2024 due to a temporary funding source.

Skills and qualifications required
We are looking for someone who has significant administration experience of working in higher education student administration or an equivalently complex setting, along with holding a degree or substantial equivalent experience. You will have experience within a customer service role where you have resolved queries and responded to enquiries.
You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, which enable you to establish productive working relationships with a wide range of people and work effectively as part of a team. In addition to this, you will have the ability to acquire knowledge and understanding of detailed policies/procedures and apply them accurately. You will be highly organised and used to delivering to deadlines. You will be able to advise on and support the review and development of academic policy. You will also be a confident IT user.
