Contract Type: Fixed Term contract up to March 2026

We are offering two Postdoctoral Research Fellowships (PDRF): one with a focus on financial economics and a second specializing in macroeconomics. These are fully funded, full time positions for three years with a start date of April 1, 2023. The postholders will work with Danny McGowan, Hisham Farag, Christoph Görtz and Huyen Nguyen on various projects. This includes amongst others financial intermediation, macroeconomics, housing markets, inequality and entrepreneurship. We are open to applications from researchers working in any area of Finance, Economics and related fields. The postholders should have a research degree (PhD) or equivalent research experience.

The responsibilities may include some but not all of the responsibilities outlined below.

  • Develop research objectives and proposals for joint research, with assistance of a mentor if required
  • Collect research data; this may be through a variety of research methods, such as scientific experimentation, literature reviews, and research interviews *
  • Analyse and interpret data
  • Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
  • Disseminate research findings for publication, research seminars, policy briefings etc
  • Supervise students on research related work and provide guidance to PhD students where appropriate to the discipline
  • Contribute to developing new models, techniques and methods 
  • Undertake management/administration arising from research

About you

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Applicants will possess a relevant PhD or an equivalent qualification/experience in a related field of study and be able to demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the discipline and of research methods and techniques to work within established research programmes. Applicants should have some, or all, of the following skills:

  • Background in finance / financial economics / macroeconomics / applied economics
  • Strong understanding of either applied microeconometrics, and/or structural modelling / applied economic theory
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • An ability to communicate and summarize academic findings to a high standard
  • A good working knowledge of Stata and/or Matlab

It is desirable, although not necessary, that applicants have:

  • An understanding or willingness to learn machine learning techniques
