Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 27th January 2023

Birmingham City University is a large and diverse place to study right in the heart of the city and we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Timetabling to join our dynamic team.

The University regards the Head of Timetabling as key to the successful delivery of the mission and objectives of the University and to the delivery of the University’s Strategy 2025, and related strategic plans.

Timetabling is a complex and necessary ingredient of the University’s learning, teaching and assessment strategy. The university is looking for someone who will be able to innovate and develop the university’s approach to timetabling, ensuring that the timetabling team are developed, empowered, and supported to deliver the timely construction of timetables which meet University standards.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Reporting to the Assistant Director and Head of Delivery Services and working closely with Faculty Registrars and Faculty Student Centres, the successful candidate will advise and support Faculties on space and timetabling matters and lead the Timetabling team to produce scheduled timetables which deliver an excellent student experience and optimise the use of available teaching space.
  • You will work collaboratively with stakeholders to deliver a high-performance culture that promotes wellbeing, diversity, and opportunity for all, supporting excellent student experience. You will be an excellent communicator, and able to provide detailed advice on university space strategy and timetabling policy to ensure that policy and best practice is well understood and observed.
  • Underpinning the role will be the need to ensure that relevant data, processes, and documentation are optimised for the efficiency and effectiveness of student performance. You will coordinate the collection of data on space management and timetabling practice and analyse available data to produce meaningful management information for senior colleagues across the University. Critical to the success of this role is cross university working, and you will liaise with Faculty academic and professional support teams, as well as other central service Departments as appropriate.

In return we offer a generous pension and annual leave provision. We also operate a hybrid working model that allows staff to combine on-site and remote working where appropriate, dependent on work duties. We also provide access to excellent facilities on campus, including supportive family friendly policies.

If you have any questions about the role or would like to discuss it in more detail, please contact Hannah Robinson, Academic Registrar and Director of Service:  Hannah.Robinson@bcu.ac.uk
