Education Assistant

Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh - Education, Training and Assessment

Location: Edinburgh
Salary: £22,455
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 31st January 2023
Closes: 28th February 2023

Hours: 35 hours per week

The Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh (RCPE) is seeking to recruit an Education Assistant to join the College’s Department of Education, Training and Assessment.

With a worldwide reputation for educational excellence, RCPE exists to promote the highest standards of patient care. One of the ways we do this is through our programme of education to support current and future doctors, particularly hospital doctors (physicians). This role is ideal for someone early in their career or keen to embark on a new career in the delivery of educational events, and would like to work within a friendly and motivated team with opportunities for development. We are looking for a polite, helpful and efficient person with excellent digital skills, who enjoys providing a high standard of customer service and who ‘goes the extra mile’ to exceed internal and external customer expectations.

The Role

This role primarily provides administrative support for a range of education events across the year alongside some support for requests made by the College’s International Committee. For example, you may support our annual programme of Symposia and International Medical Updates, each reaching audiences of between 200 and 700 people from the UK and overseas.  The Assistant communicates with delegates and provides webstreaming, Slido (interactive Q&A and voting system), and survey feedback support across all education events. Alongside the other Education Assistants, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing a range of support services to assist the College’s Education Coordinators in the smooth running of RCPE education events.

This is a full-time permanent role based at the College on Queen Street, Edinburgh [although an element of hybrid working is available]. Hours of work are 35 per week, normally 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday inclusive. There are regular occasions when it is necessary to work outside normal office hours in order to support educational events, and a system of TOIL is in place to accommodate this.

The Person:

The Education Assistant will be an enthusiastic self-starter with a positive attitude and interest in education and event support. Good communication and IT/digital skills are essential as well as meticulous attention to detail and the ability to process, store and recall data accurately. With a large and varied education programme to support, any candidate must be able to manage potentially conflicting priorities, remain calm under pressure and be an excellent team player.

Please refer to the Job Description for the role and person specification.

Remuneration Package

The salary for this role will be £22,455 per annum plus benefits.  Additional benefits include:

  • Pension: with employer contributions of 9%.
  • Holidays: 23 days’ annual leave (with incremental increase over five years to 28 days) and 11 days’ public holiday/College close downs.
  • Life assurance scheme.
  • Long-term income protection scheme for those unable to work due to illness.
  • Cycle to Work scheme.
  • Discounted rates for use of the venue for personal events.
