LU Arts is seeking a Curator, Radar (Maternity Cover) to produce and deliver our thematic programme of contemporary art commissions.
Radar is a contemporary art programme that actively engages with research across Loughborough University’s two campuses and uses it as a stimulus to inform and develop new projects. Radar commissions often draw on research that speaks to the social, political and ecological context in which we live. Commissioned work is varied, ranging from film, to live performance, to discursive events programmes, and often takes place in partnership with other cultural organisations. The common theme is a commitment to working with artists whose practice is research-based and who will benefit from the opportunity to engage with a broad range of academic work. Radar is part of LU Arts, the University’s extra-curricular arts organisation, which also delivers a student-focused arts programme, curates the University’s arts collection, and manages a small gallery.
This role will involve working with current commissioned artists and partner academics to support their ongoing work, as well as initiating shorter term engagements with artists, and managing partnership projects. The ideal candidate will have experience in curating and commissioning contemporary art, including production and delivery, external fundraising, partnership working and an interest in supporting research-led artistic practice. They will have an interest in working in an academic context and a strong understanding of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, particularly as it relates to the campus environment. They will also possess excellent interpersonal and administrative skills, including the ability to manage a budget. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support the delivery of events. They will be a key member of the LU Arts Team and collaborate with colleagues across the University.
