We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual to provide direct support services, advice and guidance to students and staff of Edinburgh University who are survivors of sexual and other forms of gender based violence. Based within the University Health and Wellbeing Centre, you will be part of a busy and innovative team, working closely with colleagues within the University/Student Associations/Wellbeing services/Academic Services and key external partners to both tackle and prevent forms of abuse and support those affected make informed choices and access appropriate support and interventions.

The Opportunity:

This post present the opportunity to enhance and consolidate the existing and developing initiatives in place across the University and to support the further development of evidence based practices to reduce both the incidence and impact of forms of abuse upon the student and staff population. Based within a specialist Gender Based Violence Team, you will hold a case load and deliver coordinated and high quality front line support for survivors.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Wide range of  experience in the direct delivery of support, advice and advocacy on a case management basis and ability to work with complex cases in a timely fashion
  • Clear understanding of the gendered analysis of abuse and proven ability to risk assess  and work with survivors affected by a range of forms of sexual and gender based violence (GBV)
  • Knowledge of wider GBV policies, practices and strategies  to support partnership working – both internal and external to the university and ability to communicate with  arrange of customers and services at a high level
  • Strong motivational skills & ability to work independently (when required) and apply high levels of standards and competencies in your work with students, staff, colleagues and the wider GBV community
  • Ability to work within a survivor and trauma informed framework – often with highly confidential and distressing cases and be able to engage in a sympathetic and empathetic manner
