The Department of Education is looking to appoint a Research Officer with responsibility for carrying out research for a discrete area of a large project, including preparation of data for archiving, managing online courses, and preparing reports and outputs. Reporting to Prof Sonali Nag, the post holder will be a member of the TalkTogether research project, which examines oral language development under the particular complexities of multilingual urban poor settings.

The post holder will be responsible for managing their own academic research and administrative activities; this involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines. They will carry out mixed-method analyses, reviewing and refining theories as appropriate, and adapting existing and developing new research methodologies as needed. They will support workflows to a high standard for conducting randomised controlled trials and/or interventions using the regression discontinuity design, and organise data collection protocols. The post holder will also develop ideas for generating research income, contribute to the development of the research programme and impact plan, and write clear and concise reports and proposals for academic audiences and senior researchers.

The successful candidate will hold, or be close to completion of, a relevant PhD/DPhil, together with relevant experience, and possess sufficient specialist knowledge in intervention designs to work within the established research programme. They will have proven knowledge of, and experience in using advanced statistical methods, along with good IT interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. The successful candidate must also have excellent communication skills, including the ability to write for publication, present research proposals and results, and represent the research group at meetings.

This post is fixed-term until 31 December 2023 and is offered on a full-time basis.
