University of Bath - School of Management

Location: Bath
Salary: £43,414 to £61,823 per annum, Grade 8 to Grade 9
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Permanent
Placed On: 9th February 2023
Closes: 8th March 2023
Job Ref: JS9874R

The School of Management invites applications at the level of Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Finance, on a research & teaching contract, at the University of Bath. Candidates with sufficient experience may be considered at the level of Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor)

We are looking to appoint a committed colleague who will make excellent contributions both in research and in teaching undergraduate, masters or MBA students.  We are particularly interested in applicants with research and teaching interests in areas such as mathematical finance, deep learning applied to finance, fintech and insurance. Our emphasis, however, will continue to be on identifying a new colleague who will deliver high quality  performance over the next 6-7 years, in any research area in finance, and who aims eventually to become a full professor. This post is in addition to others advertised in throughout 2022 and now filled.

Colleagues on research & teaching contracts teach half the load taught by those on teaching contracts. This post is for candidates, in the early stages of their careers, aiming to publish research in strong academic journals. The successful applicant will have a credible research pipeline and will likely have already published in such journals. Papers accepted for publication will also be counted if proof of acceptance can later be provided. Every successful candidate for Lecturer in the past several years has had at least one ABS4 publication. Candidates wishing to be considered for Senior Lecturer should have several years of experience as a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer and are only likely to be successful at that level with at least six academically strong papers published, including two ABS4 or one ABS4*, on their lists of refereed publications. As with our appointments from 2022, a market supplement may be added to the salary.

The School of Management is a vibrant and productive community. In the UK Research Excellence Framework for Business and Management Studies (REF), it was ranked 8th in 2014 the 7th in 2021. The School has access to financial data as you would expect, including Datastream, CRSP, Compustat and the WRDS platform but also many others, such as BoardEx, CSMAR China data, Eventus, London LSPD, Markit, Mergent FISD, MFLinks, Morningstar, Option Metrics, and daily TAQ data.

The University of Bath is situated on a modern campus surrounded by attractive countryside overlooking the centre of Bath, a UNESCO-designated World Heritage City, famous for its Georgian architecture and its cultural festivals. It is a safe and friendly campus with excellent sports facilities. Bath is easily accessible by air, road and rail and located only 100 miles west of London (under an hour and a half by train). The School of Management itself is now housed in a large, new building which is enhancing the collegiality of the working experience here at Bath.

This is a full-time post with an expected start date of October 2023 or earlier by agreement.

Informal enquiries may be made to Professor David Newton, Head of the Accounting, Finance and Law Division,  email dpn25@bath.ac.uk. However please ensure that you submit your application through the University website.
