About the Role

We are looking for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant in Participatory Research and Practice to join the Preventive Neurology Unit (PNU) to investigate the patient experience of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) care for minoritised ethnic groups, specifically Black British and South Asian communities living in socially deprived areas of London and Yorkshire. The postholder will work with our team to shape the research questions, develop recruitment strategies, generate data and analyze findings. The focus will be on service access, communication, and information needs, with an aim to identify barriers and challenges in these areas and co-design new service proposals with project stakeholders.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a PhD degree in anthropology, sociology, geography, or science and technology studies, with research experience and an interest in the social determinants of health, social studies of medicine, and knowledge production. Proven qualitative/mixed methods research skills are required. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to make a real impact on the health and wellbeing outcomes of people with MS from minoritised ethnic groups.

About the Centre

The Centre for Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis is at the forefront of international research into the prevention and control of neurological disease and cancer. The Preventive Neurology Unit has particularly active research programmes in multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, and dementia. The Centre for Prevention, Detection and Diagnosis also has major expertise in cancer screening, awareness and early diagnosis, and statistical methods for clinical trials and epidemiology, and the postholder would have access to expertise within these areas to support their professional development.

The post is full time (35 hours a week) and fixed term appointment for 24 months. Starting salary will be at Grade 4, £37,348 - £39,308 per annum inclusive of London Allowance.
