We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher to support the acceleration of impact of research on collections held at Unilever Archives, Port Sunlight, and specifically to join a team exploring the business operations of Lever Brothers in Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Solomon Islands, 1900-1930. The post is funded by an AHRC Impact Acceleration Award and is associated with a collaborative project between the University of Liverpool and Unilever. It forms part of a wider commitment to a balanced and transparent review of the history of Lever Brothers and the legacy of William Lever, as one of Unilever's founders and one of the University's benefactors.
You will be expected to liaise with existing partners, and identify and develop new connections with other relevant stakeholder communities and organisations. The successful candidate will arrange and deliver a partners’ forum in Port Sunlight and draft a report on this work, outlining findings and making recommendations regarding next steps. During this time, you will also work with partners to develop further research funding applications and other activities. Preference will be given to candidates with a strong research record and complementary experience of community engagement. You should have a PhD by the starting date of the appointment and have experience of working with a broad range of non-academic partners. You will be expected to work effectively as a member of the research team, and to have clear communication skills with a variety of audiences. You will be appointed in the Department of History or the Department of Languages, Cultures and Film, which are both part of the School of Histories, Languages and Cultures. You will not be expected to contribute to departmental teaching. The position is funded by the AHRC and is for 6 months
Informal enquiries can be directed to Professor Charles Forsdick, email: C.Forsdick@liverpool.ac.uk.
Any applicants who are still awaiting their PhD to be awarded should be aware that if successful, they will be appointed at grade 6, spine point 30. Upon written confirmation that they have been successful in being awarded their PhD, they will be moved onto grade 7, spine point 31 from the date of their award.
The University has the right to close the vacancy early if it is deemed that there have been enough applications received.
