Term: Part-time or Full-time (from 0.2 up to 1.0 FTE), Fixed-term (12 months)

The Role

Northeastern University London wishes to appoint an Assistant Professor (Teaching & Scholarship) in Anatomy & Physiology. The appointee will be primarily teaching first-year undergraduate students.

We wish to appoint a specialist in teaching Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology. Preference may be given to candidates that can also teach in areas of health systems and public health. Preference may also be given to candidates with active interests in the relationship of anatomy and physiology and health systems to one or more of the following areas: use of software and technology; employment contexts; diversity and inclusion.

Core duties will include teaching lectures and laboratory practicals in the first-year student mobility program of Northeastern University. The programme is transforming education by striving to deliver courses worldwide that inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scientists and medical professionals, ready for future classes and the Northeastern University’s co-op program.

We particularly encourage applications from those with an interest in innovative teaching, learning and assessment; those with experience of supporting a wide variety of students; and those belonging to groups underrepresented in UK higher education. We are open to appointing on a reduced fraction or job-share basis, subject to our business needs.

Department

Computing, Engineering, and Natural Sciences is undergoing a major growth at Northeastern University London. It is home to four interdisciplinary undergraduate dual-degree (in UK and US) programs in the areas of Data Science, Data Science and Politics, Computer Science and Business, and Computer Science and Philosophy; and four postgraduate programs in the areas of AI, Data Science, Software Engineering, and Digital Leadership.

The department is a major part of Northeastern University’s first-year student mobility program, offering undergraduate courses in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Healthcare, striving to inspire and equip entering students to be outstanding scientists.

Opportunities for disciplinary and interdisciplinary research and scholarship abound: the department aims to unite computing, engineering and natural sciences with humanities based on ground-breaking research and research-oriented teaching practices. The successful appointee will have an opportunity to join one of the research institutes at Northeastern University, based on expertise.

Person Specification Criteria

Qualifications

  • PhD completed, or near completion (all but dissertation), or equivalent professional experience, in a relevant area (essential)
  • FHEA status, or equivalent, achieved or expected (desirable)
  • A teaching qualification (FHEA or equivalent).

  • Demonstrates, through evidence, excellent ability as to be adaptable, innovative, and inclusive in the role as advertised with regards to teaching and service
  • Flexibility and capacity to teach across a wide range of courses
  • Ability to develop excellent educational provision in areas with significant appeal to students, including at postgraduate level
  • Willingness and capacity to undertake continuous professional development in the use of technology, software, and data in relation to Anatomy & Physiology, and to teach on these matters
