This role will lead activities within UKRI Research Councils to establish and deliver cross UKRI Horizon alternative talent programmes.

You will lead the operationalisation and delivery of transitional talent measures, such as inflight assessment, that are to be put in place in the event of non-association to Horizon Europe. You will also support cross Council implementation groups working to develop new cross UKRI talent programmes that will be launched upon non-association.

This particular role will be based in the Programmes Directorate (PD) of STFC. PD commissions and oversees the delivery of the STFC science programme in universities and its own laboratories. Its role is to support the UK’s world class research programme in astronomy, particle physics, particle astrophysics and nuclear physics as well as STFC's programmes in education, innovation, training, and public outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting UKRI engagement with the research and innovation community as part of Horizon Europe transitional measures and talent alternative scheme establishment, and the development of clear communications regarding transitional and upcoming UKRI talent programmes.
  • Supporting the peer review and assessment of inflight Horizon Europe associated talent proposals and the establishment and delivery of new cross UKRI talent programmes
  • Supporting activities to ensure awareness of proposed Horizon Alternative talent programmes within their Council.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including working collaboratively across UKRI and its Councils / Innovate UK.
  • Carry out other Council talent and grant related duties/ projects that may be required of the post.

Skills, qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Relevant degree or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Experience of working in a research and/ or innovation environment and an understanding of peer review.
  • Ability to communicate clearly; experience of presenting information persuasively and succinctly.
  • Experience of working effectively with others to deliver objectives.
  • Ability to take accountability and proactively deliver objectives and outcomes of own work (supporting the wider team) through planning, prioritising and delivering with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to solve problems and make decisions by choosing between a variety of options, which may be complex and conflicting.
  • Ability to work with ambiguity and respond to difficult situations by showing initiative and judgement in an evolving environment.
