About the V&V Team
WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick, one of the world’s leading research and education groups with state-of-the-art technologies. WMG hosts one of the seven centres for High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult.
The verification and validation (V&V) team at WMG are undertaking a programme of research and engineering across the verification and validation spectrum. The physical world of mobility and infrastructure are merging with the digital world of simulation, AI, software, and data. With the emergence of evermore complex systems comes evermore complex challenges. Chief among these challenges, that of assuring safety.
The V&V team is recruiting for a Project Engineer position to be split across the capabilities of Safety Assurance and Simulation. This role will involve the development and application of novel safety-assurance approaches including identifying safety metrics, coverage analysis, pass/ fail criteria, safety case and safety argument. The role will involve the application of scenario-based testing approaches for Connected and Autonomous mobility systems, including scenario generation, defining and analysing the operational design domain, using scenario definition languages, and in-depth knowledge of ontological concepts in testing. In addition, the role will also be responsible for using, maintaining, and developing simulation interface and platforms for the testing of automated systems. The role is part of a wider team which includes experts in scenario generation, languages and simulation-based testing and this role will involve close cooperation with this wider team.
You will work in collaboration with industry and academic partners. Engineering experience will be required along with your well-developed communication and collaboration skills to assist working independently and as part of a team. The ability to be flexible with your work will be an important part of the role. You will also be responsible for project delivery and providing regular updates to your line manager and WMG’s Verification and Validation leadership team.
The V&V team work from fundamental research, to applied research, the development of policy, standards and regulation, direct commercial research and professional education offerings. Our programme of work is having a material impact on the creation and application of novel safety assurance methods across emerging technologies: with its foundation in Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV’s) and extending across transportation domains (i.e. aviation, land, marine) and novel technologies (i.e. AI). We are proudly enabling a new wave of technological progress by working with partners worldwide.
The V&V group is globally recognised, with the research and engineering teams siting on global standards & regulatory committees as the UK representatives (i.e. ISO TC 204/WG14 and ISO TC22/ SC33/ WG9), being lead author of international standards on self-driving shuttles/ pods, and contributing to many more standards (i.e. ASAM OpenODD, OpenLABEL, BSI 1889 & BSI 1883). Along with having developed the world’s largest public database of test scenarios for CAV’s, Safety Pool™ Scenario Database, and leading on a pillar of the UK Governments pioneering CAM Test Bed programme, Midlands Future Mobility.
