About The V&V Team

WMG is a vibrant, cutting-edge research institution at the University of Warwick, one of the world’s leading research and education groups with state-of-the-art technologies. WMG hosts one of the seven centres for High Value Manufacturing (HVM) Catapult.

The verification and validation (V&V) team at WMG are undertaking a programme of research and engineering across the verification and validation spectrum. The physical world of mobility and infrastructure are merging with the digital world of simulation, AI, software, and data. With the emergence of evermore complex systems comes evermore complex challenges. Chief among these challenges, that of assuring safety.

The V&V team is recruiting for a Project Engineer position in the area of Safety Assurance. This role will involve the development and application of novel safety-assurance approaches including identifying safety metrics, coverage analysis, pass/ fail criteria, safety case and safety argument. The role will involve the application of scenario-based testing approaches for Connected and Autonomous mobility systems, including scenario generation, operational design domain, using scenario definition languages, use of simulation for testing and in-depth knowledge of ontological concepts in testing. The role is part of a wider team which includes experts in scenario generation, languages and simulation-based testing and this role will involve close cooperation with this wider team.

You will work in collaboration with industry and academic partners. Engineering experience will be required along with your well-developed communication and collaboration skills to assist working independently and as part of a team. The ability to be flexible with your work will be an important part of the role. You will also be responsible for project delivery and providing regular updates to your line manager and WMG’s Verification and Validation leadership team.

The group is globally recognised, with the research and engineering team siting on global standards committees as the UK representative (i.e. ISO TC 204/WG14 and ISO TC22/ SC33/ WG9), being lead author of a proposed international standard on self-driving shuttles/ pods, and contributing to many more standards (i.e. ASAM OpenLABEL, BSI 1889 & BSI 1883). Along with having developed the world’s largest public database of test scenarios for CAV’s, Safetypool™, and leading on one pillar of the UK Governments pioneering CAM Test Bed programme, Midlands Future Mobility.
