The role

This is an opportunity to lead the University of Bristol’s Policy Engagement team from June 2023 – end March 2024, covering the secondment of the current Head of team.

The Head of team is responsible for ensuring policy engagement is embedded in University structures and processes, and leads on the strategic aims around policy engagement. They have a key role working with the other Heads of Team within the Research Impact remit – Research Commercialisation, Public Engagement and Impact Development - to ensure that the four teams work together effectively and fulfil RED’s vision, purpose and objectives. 

What will you be doing?

You will

  • develop and deliver a high quality strategic agenda for policy engagement, as part of the University strategy and Divisional aims
  • take a lead role in providing expert advice on policy engagement to staff – including the most senior colleagues - across the University, as well as academic and other departments.
  • provide national and international thought leadership on policy engagement and its synergies with other areas of research and engagement
  • ensure the team is sector leading by examining, adapting and adopting best practice in other universities
  • develop our approach to cross-sector engagement, bringing policymakers, industry and communities together to address research challenges
  • manage the Policy Support Fund to maximise the benefit of projects funded for 22-23 and 23-24

You should apply if

You will need strong leadership and management skills, and the ability to work with a wide variety of individuals and organisations. We are looking for an experienced professional who can represent the University regionally and nationally and be a thought leader in the field.

If you have significant knowledge and experience of policy engagement at a senior level, can manage operating in a continually changing environment, and are keen to take on a new challenge, we’d love to hear from you.
