The School of Natural and Built Environment (NBE) at Queen’s University Belfast, is currently seeking to appoint an exceptional candidate to the post of Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering.

As Lecturer in Geotechnical Engineering, you will undertake teaching and research in line with the strategy/targets of the Civil Engineering Discipline within The School of Natural and Built Environment, The Faculty of Engineering and Physical Science (EPS) and wider Queen’s University’s vision of world class leadership and impact on society. The successful candidate will join the Geotechnical Research Group and contribute to high-quality teaching by designing, delivering and assessing courses across a range of core and option modules, including the supervision of undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate taught (PGT) project students.

You will also develop your personal research profile to the highest standards; contributing to our international reputation by securing research funding, publishing results in internationally recognised high-impact journals and supervising postgraduate research students. Candidates from any area of geotechnical research are welcomed; and those with a background in numerical/constitutive modelling of soil-structure interaction, geotechnical infrastructure systems and geohazards (i.e. climate resilience/flooding) are especially encouraged. The successful candidate is expected to become a member of one of the professional accrediting institutions for our degree programmes and have the ability support the administration activities of the School.

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate you:

  • Hold or be about to obtain a PhD in Civil Engineering within the specialist area of Geotechnics
  • Hold 2(i), First degree, or higher, in Civil Engineering or a related subject
  • Can demonstrate evidence of potential to deliver high quality teaching in Civil Engineering Subjects at undergraduate or postgraduate level through the medium of English
  • Have a strong record of publications, commensurate with career stage, in the Geotechnical field in peer reviewed/refereed journals that are REF returnable within the Engineering Unit of Assessment.
