The University of Warwick is one of the UK's leading campus universities, in the top 100 universities in the world and top 10 in the UK (THE World University Rankings, 2022). Warwick Medical School is home to the largest Graduate Entry Medicine (MB ChB) programme in the UK, attracting highly motivated students from all educational backgrounds and producing excellent medical graduates. This is an exciting opportunity to join the academic leadership team for the Warwick MBChB, leading on the strategic development and delivery of admissions for the school.
Warwick has a strong record in innovative admission practice. WMS was an early adopter of the Multiple Mini Interview (MMI) as well as adapting our processes and curriculum to allow us to admit applicants from the widest range of academic backgrounds including graduates from any discipline of first degree. We have substantive workstreams around inclusion and the awarding gap.
The post holder will lead the day-to-day admissions process, reviewing and developing this to ensure that WMS remains sector-leading and aligned to current and developing best practice. This includes around potential course expansion including potential new models of admitting students such as via the Medical Degree Apprenticeship mechanism.
They will also contribute more widely to the development of the MBChB course at Warwick and will engage in scholarship relating to admissions, student attainment and progression as well as inclusive admissions and education practice.
The post holder will also contribute to relevant teaching and assessment of the Masters in Medical Education Programme and may contribute to other courses depending on their experience, interests and school need.
The post is supported by deputy leads for admissions and by the admissions administration team.
The successful candidate could come from a wide range of professional areas including, but not limited to, academic, commercial and clinical backgrounds although this is not a clinical appointment. They will have extensive experience of team leadership, deploying psychometric analyses, making high-stakes decisions on individuals and innovating to improve widening access and day-to-day admissions practices.
We will consider applications for employment on a part-time or other flexible working basis, even where a position is advertised as full-time, unless there are operational or other objective reasons why it is not possible to do so.
