Role Summary

You will work on the following two NIHR funded research grants:

  • Designing a platform trial to assess the effectiveness of interventions for peripheral arterial disease: The PAEDIS trial development project
  • Venous leg ulcErs: management and eradication, the VEIN Platform Study

Both of the above grants aim to develop a grant application for a “platform trial” [1] that is due to be submitted to the NIHR in late 2023. You will design and conduct focus groups with patients, healthcare professionals and subject matter experts. Then produce summaries of the focus groups to share with the rest of the research team. You will also summarise published literature and assist in the writing of the two grant applications.

Main Duties

  • Design and run focus groups
  • Analyse and interpret data from focus groups
  • Contribute to writing two research grants
  • Search for, review and summarise published data
  • Undertake management/administration tasks arising from your work
  • Contribute to Departmental/School research-related activities and research-related administration
  • Provide guidance, as required, to support staff and any students who may be assisting with the research
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadlines
  • Promote equality and value diversity acting as a role model and fostering an inclusive working culture
  • Develop research objectives and proposals for own or joint research, with assistance of a mentor if require
  • Contribute to enterprise, business development and/or public engagement activities of manifest benefit to the College and the University, often under supervision of a project leader.
  • Deal with problems that may affect the achievement of research objectives and deadline

Person Specification

Essential

  • First degree in: Sport Science, Sociology, Psychology, Healthcare sciences or any related fields
  • Previous experience of developing, running and analysing focus groups in clinical population(s)
  • An understanding of what a ‘Platform Randomised Control Trial’ is
  • An understanding of mixed methods research methodology and an ability to explain them to both lay and expert audiences both orally and in writing.
  • Experience of searching for, reviewing and summarising published literature
  • Co-ordinate your own work with others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day to day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly
  • High level analytical capability
