A great opportunity has arisen for a Research and Innovation Advocacy Officer to support our ambitious 5-year strategy to triple public investment into lung research and innovation to £150 million annually.
Asthma + Lung UK is the only charity in the UK fighting for everyone with a lung condition, aiming for a world where everyone can breathe with healthy lungs. We fund cutting-edge research, provide advice and support for the 12 million people who will get a lung condition during their lifetime. We also campaign for clean air and for better NHS diagnosis and treatment.
We are entering a unique period in the political cycle, with major parties having made commitments to increasing research spend and recognising the value of lung research (UK Life Sciences Vision). You will play an integral role in ensuring we effectively influence a range of stakeholders – including politicians, the pharmaceutical industry and civil servants – to take forward our ambition to make the UK a lung research superpower.
Applying your high levels of organisation you will enable the team to engage with key targets, developing high-quality briefings and being a constant source of intelligence on the life sciences. You will have an appetite for tailoring our communications to have the greatest impact on decision-makers, including through social media, and a curiosity for how lung research and innovation can change the lives of people and improve health and economic outcomes.
We will particularly welcome candidates with high levels of project management, tenacity and excellent written and verbal communication skills to deliver on our ambition. You will interact with colleagues at all levels across the organisation and have a great opportunity to develop your advocacy skillset and increase your external profile through conferences and events.
As well as a competitive salary, you’ll enjoy a range of benefits including 30 days annual leave (plus bank holidays), membership of a health cash plan, employee assistance programme, cycle-to-work scheme, interest-free annual season Travelcard loan and pension scheme. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an organisation committed to being the driving force behind the transformation of lung health.
