Position: Full-time / 37.5 hours a week

The Registrar (Assessment and Academic Standards) is responsible for providing a robust student administration service which enables all students to achieve at their highest level. The Registrar (Assessment and Academic Standards) is responsible for providing advice and guidance on all matters of student assessment (including systems and processes), academic standards, academic misconduct and complaints. The Registrar (Assessment and Academic Standards) has direct responsibility for managing assessment policies and procedures, and academic standards, working effectively and collaboratively with other departments across the College. 

Purpose of Job

  • Ensuring College and student compliance with all academic regulations and standards.
  • Managing the assessment processes and the preparation of student awards, statements and graduation. 

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Academic Standards

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of the regulatory frameworks in Higher Education.  
  • Oversee the development, implementation and review of relevant College policies, regulations, procedures and forms and ensure College compliance.
  • Provide training for academic and academic-related staff on all policies, processes and regulations relating to academic standards and assessment.
  • Ensure academic regulations are updated annually and made available to students within the Programme Handbooks. 

Assessment

  • To oversee the day-to-day implementation of assessment policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to academic standards.
  • Ensure that assessment outcomes are correctly recorded and that assessment boards are supported to enable them to function properly and fairly in maintaining academic standards and awards.
  • Work collaboratively with the Registrar (Admissions, Enrolment and Student Records) to ensure accurate progression data is provided to Progression Boards.
  • Ensure that individual courses, programmes and modules are well supported administratively, with clearly documented processes to support the student journey.
  • To act as Chair of the Academic Assessment Panel and other academic committees as required.
  • Periodically review assessment briefs by sample, for all programmes delivered by the College every term and comment on the extent to which they are fit for purpose, and aligned with the assessment standards.
  • Manage all cases of plagiarism detected through Turnitin.
  • Periodically review the quality of assessment briefs and internal verification of assessment decisions.
  • To prepare and run mock quality and standards reviews and audits.
  • Maintain oversight of the examination officers and associated examinations processes.
  • Deal with any external requests for information relating to recognition of prior learning or credit transfer and be responsible for issuing letters and documents to students and other third parties. 

Management information

  • Maintain accurate student assessment and examinations records to ensure the integrity and quality of data as required by the College, external bodies and Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA).
  • Prepare information for external and internal audits. 

Person Specification 

Essential

  • Experience of managing assessments and academic regulations in a higher education institution
  • Bachelor’s Degree (min 2:1)
  • Experience of building and maintaining relationships with colleagues in different areas of the organisation
  • Experience of writing policy and process documentation
  • Proven ability to write reports
  • Excellent administration and presentational skills
  • Excellent IT and analytical skills
  • Ability to work effectively as a part of a team and collaborate with other staff
  • Effective management and leadership skills
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral) 

Desirable 

  • Postgraduate qualification
  • Experience in working effectively with external agencies
