The Royal Society is the independent scientific academy of the UK dedicated to promoting excellence in science. Our International Grants team manage a range of fellowship and grants programmes which provide support for high calibre scientists in the UK and overseas.
We are looking for a highly motivated, experienced candidate with excellent organisational, people and stakeholder management skills, and enthusiasm in promoting international research collaboration and attracting talent, to lead as a Senior Manager on the development and delivery of two of the Society’s principal global funding programmes.
Proven experience working in a research management or grant funding environment is essential. You will be responsible for leading the delivery of the Royal Society’s Newton International Fellowship and International Exchanges Grant programmes, along with a number of smaller schemes, which represent a significant investment by the Society. You will lead a team of seven, be expected to develop and maintain strong working relationships with external partners and to represent the Society at external events and forums. You will have proven ability to facilitate meetings and discussions, manage sizable budgets, balance staff resource, analyse complex data, and implement robust decision-making and monitoring & evaluation processes. You will be capable of using your initiative to the full, working with people from diverse cultures and taking on wide-ranging responsibilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at the start of a new Grants Strategy. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of International Grants and other senior colleagues helping to fulfil our strategic objectives and ensure maximum impact and effectiveness of the Society’s programmes.
The post holder will be responsible for developing and leading a portfolio of research funding schemes and programmes aimed at supporting global collaboration through international fellowships and mobility grants. The main purpose of the role is:
