We are recruiting for a Communications Manager: Library Services to connect our users (which includes, academics, students, researchers of all kinds and the wider public) to the vast range of services, resources and research materials at their disposal at one of the world's great research libraries ¿ and one of only six Legal Deposit Libraries in the UK and Ireland.
We're looking for a new team member who enjoys being at the heart of an active community, advising colleagues and creating engaging multi-channel communications to promote our resources. We need a colleague who enjoys being part of the day-to-day running of a complex organisation, as we frequently rely on communications to help our users navigate changes to services in rapidly changing circumstances.
The Communications Manager: Library Services will be part of the Communications Team in Cambridge University Libraries' External Engagement group, which was established in 2019 to bring together the public and externally facing work at Cambridge University Libraries (including communications, exhibitions, events, fundraising and membership). Over the last few years, we have delivered the University of Cambridge's biggest-ever news story (featured in more than 6,400 publications across the world), welcomed up to 100,000 visitors a year to exhibitions in Cambridge, and toured our first exhibition, which was seen by more than 250,000 at the New York Public Library. We are passionate about ensuring as many people as possible can use the services and collections at Cambridge University Libraries.
This is an exciting time to join us: our team is growing, and we are still developing our vision and understanding what works for our audiences and readers. We need colleagues able to work to the best effect with the resources that are available now, as well as help us to build our vision and plans for the future.
Applicants from a range of sectors and backgrounds who have relevant and transferable skills are warmly welcome. We think this role needs to be based primarily on-site, but we are open to hybrid and flexible working. The current team works a variety of patterns including part-time, full-time, compressed hours, and different home working days. We want these jobs to work as well for the people who do them as they do for the organisation and are open to discussing all options.
A love of libraries and a belief in their power and importance is essential.
Temporary cover: This post is fixed-term for 2 years or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
Applications are welcome from internal candidates who would like to apply for the role on the basis of a secondment from their current role in the University.
We welcome applications from individuals who wish to be considered for part-time working or other flexible working arrangements.
We particularly welcome applications from a BME background for this vacancy as they are currently under-represented at this level in our institution.
